1st Day

1st Day
This is a picture of me (center) and my Senior Seminar teachers, Mr. Sahd and Mrs. Schober.
Senior Seminar is a class made up of several seniors in my high school who choose a project based on their interests and Granada is a part of my project. For two whole periods a day students work on their projects. It's a great experience going to school and going to all your regular classes, and then at the end of the day you work on a project that you love. I believe that every high school student should be given this opportunity.
Today was the first sale at lunches..

Peacemakers

"The Planet does not need more 'succesful people'. The planet desperately needs more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers and lovers of all kinds. It needs people to live well in their places. It needs people with moral courage willing join the struggle to make to world habitable and humane and these qualities have little to do with success as our culture is the set."

Reflection

Recently we have experienced the tragic destruction of hurricane Sandy, and it is time to reflect on the way we treat our world. We have the opportunity of making our world beautiful, clean, and healthy again.
There are many ways that you can participate on making a change in our enviroment. An example are shoes made out of tires; tires that end up in landfills. For every two pairs of shoes you  purchase you take action in making piece of land beautiful again. To see these shoes or other products like these go to roozt.com
For more eco-friendly products browse through Roozt .  You will see several ways that you can help while making a statment.

GSK & Love 146

I am happy to say that I will be hosting another school sale of Granada Street Kids friendship bracelets this December. The proceeds go to Escuela Nueva Vida, a school in Nicaragua. This school takes boys from the street, away from poverty, and shows them how to live a better life away from danger.

Visit their website at Granada Street Kids

I also plan to work with Love 146 a charity that supports the end of sex trafficking and exploitation.
I will work with a club at my school called Crusaders Against Sex Trafficking (C.A.S.T.) and I plan to raise money for the cause.

To learn more about Love 146 and hear the beautiful story about how they got their name visit their website:  Love 146

Quote of the Day; September 26

"When I asked God for strength, He gave me difficult situations to face.
When I asked God for brain & brown, He gave me puzzles in life to solve.
When I asked God for happiness, He showed me some unhappy people.
When I asked God for wealth, He showed me how to work hard.

Quote of the Day; September 21

"The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences."

CHARLIZE

Charlize Theron has worked to bring attention to causes in Africa.
CHARLIZE THERON
  • Theron is involved in women right's organizations, and has marched in pro-choice rallies.
  • Theron also is a supporter of animal rights and active member of PETA. She appeared in a PETA ad for its anti-fur campaign.
  • She is a supporter of same-sex marriage and attended a march to support that in Fresno, California, on 30 May 2009. She is a gay rights activist and refuses to get married until same sex marriage is legal in the United States. "I don't want to get married because right now the institution of marriage feels very one-sided, and I want to live in a country where we all have equal rights," Theron said. "I think it would be exactly the same if we were married, but for me to go through that kind of ceremony, because I have so many friends who are gays and lesbians who would so badly want to get married, that I wouldn't be able to sleep with myself." In a June 2011 interview on Piers Morgan Tonight, she stated "When government starts to tell us who can love and what is good love… I do have a problem with that. I do have a problem with the fact that our government hasn’t stepped up enough to make this federal, to make [gay marriage] legal. I think everybody has that right.”
  • In July 2009, Theron's Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) announced a coalition with LAFC Soccer Club to give soccer fields to rural areas in South Africa. The US youth soccer club LAFC Chelsea made a three-year commitment to help build a community-wide soccer program for the schools in the Umkhanyakude district, encompassing uniforms, equipment, professional training for local coaches, referees and administrators, and health education.
  • In December 2009, CTAOP and TOMS Shoes partnered to create a limited edition unisex shoe. The shoe was made from vegan materials and inspired by the African baobab tree, the silhouette of which was embroidered on blue and orange canvas. Ten-thousand pairs were given to destitute children, and a portion of the proceeds went to CTAOP.

AUDREY

                                                         AUDREY HEPBURN
Today it’s no longer a matter of ignorance, nor politics, nor economics, but of human will and love.

They say each new generation offers man another chance. And there you are, our new generation; our hope for the future. Why are you our hope for the future? Because you have purity of heart, which so often time and age has obscured in us. But also, you have the knowledge today, which we did not. [...] Until now, until this time of unprecedented change, a time when all the world is finally aware of the fragility of our beautiful planet, of our need for each other, of the needs of our children, of our need for you.

KSG Original T-Shirt "BE SAFE, HELP OTHERS"
Katavi was founded under the simple notion that everyone deserves proper sun protection. The sunscreen industry is dominated by major global pharmaceutical companies who are purveying inferior products and swimming in profit, while others suffer. Our mission is to provide consumers with a higher-quality sunscreen combined with a greater social purpose.
At Katavi, it’s nature versus nature.

Granada Street Kids

Picture they sent me holding a sign that says, "Gracias Lancaster Catholic"

The colorful bracelets

There is a school located in Nicaragua called "Escuela Nueva Vida," who take boys from the street that are suffering from extreme poverty, they are "Granada Street kids." These boys are taken in from the streets and offered a better life full of hope.
I helped these boys last year, it was my first ever project. They sent me hundreds of bracelets to sell. I sold them at my school, Lancaster Catholic HS, and it was a big success with sending them 600 dollars. Each bracelet was 5 dollars and had the name and picture of the boy who made it.
This was a huge experience for me, at the end it felt so satisfying. To this day during school, I randomly look around and see some people still wearing their bracelet. I smile because it makes me so happy that they are still appreciating it.
A couple days later when I sent the rest back, people were still asking me if they could purchase a bracelet, I knew I had to keep doing this project. And this year I will send more to help these boys.

Casa De Ancianos

That is me on the right sitting in "casa de ancianos" a nursing home in EL Salvador. Both my parents are from El Salvador, and we try to visit every two years. We just started coming to this nursing home a couple years ago. We give these ladies a nice meal and some gifts. They get so excited when we come and visit them, that we do this project every time we visit.
